From at least 1913-1953, the local Controllers of Chinese Immigration at the ports of Vancouver and Victoria produced and forwarded to Ottawa monthly lists of persons leaving Canada temporarily. These included both (a) persons to whom C.I.9 and C.I.9A certificates were issued, and (b) "native-born" Canadians travelling outwards but not holding formal certificates.
These lists were originally placed on headquarters First Central Registry files 830533-VICTORIA and 830533-VANCOUVER, but are now arranged in chronological order in two groups of annual files, as follows: Victoria (reel T-6053, including file parts 2-31; part 1 is missing) - lists dated April 1913 to March 1953; and Vancouver (reel T-6054, including file parts 1-32) - lists dated January 1913 to February 1953.
The earliest monthly lists include the name of each holder, his/her age and the C.I.9 or 9A certificate number; some also list the numbers of I.D. certificates (C.I.5, 28, 30, or 36) surrendered to the Controller on departure. The later lists divide the names into three groups: C.I.9 holders, C.I.9A holders, and "native-born" travellers. For each person they give numbers of surrendered I.D. certificates, name of ship on which they departed, and occasionally an Immigration case file number.Additional information:Source of title:Title is based on the contents of the sub-sub-series.Dates of creation note:These records were filmed by the Department under microfilm authority M6-62 in 1963 from originals which were then destroyed.
