The two prints were done for the benefit of the Church in Canada by an amateur woman artist, Mrs. Caroline Bucknall Estcourt (1809-1886), née Pole-Carew, who was married to Major James Bucknall Bucknall Estcourt of the 43rd Regiment, who became the British Boundary commissioner as a result of the signing of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842. Mrs. Estcourt was an amateur printmaker and an accomplished watercolour artist. The two prints depict Snowshoeing near Quebec (below the Martello Tower), and a Winter Scene on the St. Lawrence River, one of which is dated 1844.

Estcourt, Caroline Bucknall, Lady, 1809-1886 : Caroline Bucknall Estcourt, daughter of Right Honorable Reginald Pole Carew of Antony, Devon, and the Hon. Caroline Lyttleton. Amateur painter. Married Sir James Bucknall Bucknall Estcourt 1837. Accompanied her husband on his overseas postings and in Canada 1838-9 and 1843-6 where executed Canadian views including Quebec winter scenes. Some sketches were subsequently lithographed. He died in the Crimea in 1855, and she was made a Knight's Widow in 1856. She died at The Priory, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England, 17 November 1886.
