Series consists of personal diaries, correspondence, a notebook, Whitehouse's activity reports, minutes, convention and conference proceedings and reports, briefs, labour education teaching and course materials, arbitration decisions, collective agreements, organizing leaflets and other publicity and educational materials, photographs, TWUA memorabilia (i.e. badges, convention hat), print matter, and other material relating primarily to Whitehouse's work as Canadian Education and Publicity Director for the TWUA. Major themes in the records are: Whitehouse's efforts to establish an education programme in the Canadian TWUA; his educational activities inside and outside the TWUA (such as seminars, institutes, Ontario Federation of Labour educational conferences, the Labour College of Canada, and his participation in the Canadian Labour Congress's Education Committee); international conventions and Canadian conferences of the TWUA; the union's briefs to government on public policy issues; Whitehouse's assistance to TWUA Local 858 in establishing the Milltown Textile Cooperative in 1954; and his involvement with other local unions, such as organizing work, collective bargaining, grievance arbitrations, and an internal dispute. Included are educational, publicity, and other materials on other unions and labour federations which Whitehouse created or received in the context of his work for the TWUA, and also material on the United States branch of the TWUA. Noteworthy are Whitehouse's four diaries for 1956-1959; these journals are detailed and reflective, and focus on his activities as a union official.
