Wily's military career 1837-1860 is found in the Thomas Wily fonds (formerly MG29 E), and in part concerns directly his activities as the first commanding officer of the First Regiment of Volunteer Rifles of Canada (subsequently becoming the Canadian Grenadier Guards). A number of photographs relating to the officers and men of this unit, as well as other military units, are found in the album.
