Series consists of meeting minutes of the Interdepartmental Committee on Water spanning 1968 to 1982. Meetings are numbered 1 through 50 with a handful of "special" unnumbered meetings strewn throughout.

All files are organized within the Environment Canada file classification system as 1165-36/J136, however, as this committee began while under the aegis of Energy Mines, and Resources, earlier minutes also bear the file number 5160 from EMR's Policy and Planning Branch file classification system.

Subject matter deals with policy decisions and recommendations on federal and interjurisdictional water policies and programs.

Interdepartmental Committee on Water (Canada) : In 1968, the Interdepartmental Inland Waters Committee was initially established on an interim basis to advise on federal water policy and related matters. The mandate of this committee continued as a permanent body to advise on all federal and interjurisdictional water policies and programs. The Committee is also responsible for conducting studies in areas related to water.

Title is based on the contents of the series.

Arrangement note:

Meeting minutes were compiled by the department from two different sets of binders. One appears to have been maintained since the inception of the Committee and covers 1968-1970. The second appears to have been compiled in 1975 (and continuously updated) covering 1971-1982.

Language note:

The majority of the meeting minutes are in English, however, some later meetings include translations.
