David A. Souter (died 1942) was a businessman (president of A.M. Souter & Co. of Hamilton), philanthropist (president of the Children's Aid Society), a Mason, and an amateur photographer, who belonged to the Hamilton Camera Club for many years. This fonds consists primarily of photographs taken by David A. Souter as well as by other Canadian amateur and professional photographers, and photographs of the Souter and Lawson families. Images include the following: Portraits of David Souter, Louise (Lawson) Souter, W.M. Souter, Hannah Lawson, Nellie Allan, Katie Young, and other members of the Souter and Lawson families, ca. 1880-1890; views of Montréal, Québec City, Ste. Anne de Beaupré, Murray Bay, Tadoussac, Niagara Falls, 1910-1911; David and Louise Souter's trip to Europe aboard S.S. Laurentic, including views of London, Paris, Berne, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lucerne, Milan, Venice, ca. 1910-1914; David and Louise Souter's trip to Britain aboard R.M.S. Mauretania, including views of Bristol, Porlock, Minehead, Lynmouth, Barnstaple, Bideford, Clovelly, Stoke Pages, Windsor, London, Warwick, Kenilworth, Stratford-on-Avon, Oxford, Chester, Ambleside, Grasmere, Conway, Bettws-y-Coed, Carnarvon, Dublin, Cork, Blarney Castle, Killarney, Galway, Donaghadee, Londonderry, Belfast, Armagh, Iona, Oban, Staffa, Tobermory, Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Melrose, Abbotsford, Stirling, ca. 1911-1913; a suffragette meeting in Trafalgar Square, London, ca. 1911-1913; Views of the Thousand Islands, 1917; Banff, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka, Lake Louise, Lake Agnes, Valley of the Ten Peaks, Glacier, Sicamous, Field, Okanagan Landing, Vernon, Kelowna, Princeton, Penticton, Summerland, Keremeos, Simildameen Valley, Spence's Bridge, Hadley, and Victoria, 1921; and activities of the Souter family and friends, mostly in and around Hamilton, ca. 1910-1939.
