It contains microfilm copies of reports, 1924-1931, on German emigration during the inter-war years; brochures, circulars, reports and other records, 1922-1942, documenting primarily the activities of German Canadian organizations during the inter-war years; copies of some 800 file cards on German Canadian organizations during the inter-war years; as well as copies of articles, memos and reports relating to the social and cultural life of Germans in Canada, 1924-1941. The fonds is located on microfilm reels K-171 to K-173.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Deutsche Ausland-Institut : The Deutsche Ausland-Institut (DAI) was established in 1917 to serve as museum and research centre on Germans outside Germany. At the same time, it sought to disseminate an awareness in the Reich of Germans outside its borders as well as to foster closer relations between Germans in Germany and those outside the Reich. The organization operated under the joint direction of the Cultural Ministry of Wurtemberg, the Ministry of the Interior and of the Department of External Affairs. After 1943, it was under the direction of the Volksdeutsche Mittlestelle, an organization established to look to and forward the concerns of Germans outside Germany.
