Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Pacific and Yukon Wildlife Research Centre of the Canadian Wildlife Service and its predecessors. These records seem to pertain to the activities of the Lands Directorate, Department of Environment. The primary responsibility of this directorate was to provide expertise and technical assistance in the areas of land use planning in environmental programs and cross-mission studies. The directorate also had coordinating responsibilities with respect to the federal position on land-use policies.

Canadian Wildlife Service. Pacific and Yukon Wildlife Research Centre : The Pacific and Yukon Wildlife Research Centre reported to the Canadian Wildlife Service unit of the Pacific and Yukon Regional Office located in Delta, British Columbia. The Canadian Wildlife Service was transferred from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1971 to the newly created Department of the Environment. In 1974 the Department of the Environment was reorganized in an effort to reflect the regional presence of the department. Five regional offices, each headed by a Regional Director General, were created.
