Sub-series consists of general records relating to mail service, with a few exceptions, which was never maintained as part of the official files records. The sub-series includes printed bills, addresses, memoranda and returns, 1799-1926 (Vol. 1142) and newspaper clippings and circulars, 1841-1951 (Vols. 1142-1155, 1159-1160, 1162-1165, 1168); a scrapbook on the Universal Postal Union Congress, held in Canada in 1957 (Vol. 1161), a scrapbook of legal opinions, 1859-1924 (Vol. 1169), a reference book containing reports, acts and instructions, 1863-1867 (Vol. 1170), a record of railway regular and overflow service, 1945-1952 (Vol. 1158), a register of street letter boxes and parcel receptacle locations across Canada, 1912-1913 (Vol. 1184), a small collection of pamphlets on postal services, 1927-1950 (Vol. 1166) and two volumes of Operating Orders, 1921-1962 (Vols. 2732 and 2733); a manual, ca. 1900, from the Returned Letter Branch of the General Post Office (Great Britain), a memorandum on the Imperial penny postage, circulars and Orders in Council relating to the Postal Service Branch, briefing books, ca. 1943 and 1968 (Vols. 3296 and 3447); a file relating to parcel post ca. 1932 (Vol. 3447) and a register of Post Offices by grade and by electoral district, 1930s-1950s (Vol. 3455).
This sub-series contains a photocopy of the first contract of printed stamp in Canada (1851). The original document was remove from volume 3296 and can be found in RG3 volume 3949 and must be consulted in the presence of the archivist.
