Works comprise original editorial cartoons and caricature portraits by Anthony Jenkins, dating 1974-1996, which were published in the Globe and Mail.
Editorial works examine important events and significant political personalities who have had an impact on the national, provincial and international scenes. Jenkins closely examines the tenures of prime ministers Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Brian Mulroney and Jean Chrétien, as well as their inner cabinets. Federal politicians of note include Ed Broadbent, Joe Clark, Sheila Copps, John Crosbie, Marc Lalonde, Paul Martin, John Turner, and Michael Wilson. Significant national issues include federal-provincial relations, Constitutional and Senate reform, transfer payments, inter-provincial relations, unemployment, the economy, recessions, social programs, health care, free trade, party leadership and election campaigns and results, crime, provincial disparities, environmental and aboriginal concerns, the auto industry, prices, taxes, and government spending.
Provincial politicians include Lucien Bouchard, Robert Bourassa, Bill Davis, Mike Harris, René Lévesque, Peter Lougheed, Frank Miller, Jacques Parizeau, David Peterson and Bill Vander Zalm. Subjects frequently examined include provincial elections, budgets, government cut-backs, police and social services, and the Quebec referendum.
International topics include foreign elections, armed conflicts, terrorism, peacekeeping, the United Nations, autonomy movements, Middle East peace talks, and trade. The fonds also contains numerous portraits of significant Canadian personalities, international heads of state and foreign politicians, contributors to the arts, entertainers, scientists, and athletes. This group of works includes caricature drawings of such writers as Kingsley Amis, Margaret Atwood, W.H. Auden, Anthony Burgess, Graham Greene, Franz Kafka, Norman Mailer, Salmon Rushdie, and W.B. Yeats. Portraits of heads of states include many Canadian prime ministers, Corazon Aquino, Fidel Castro, Jacques Chirac, William Churchill, Charles de Gaulle, Benjamin Disraeli, Che Guevara, Vaclev Havel, Nikita Khrushchev, Shimon Perez, and Mother Terresa.
A final group of works comprises originals from the series entitled "A.J." which are small in format and were published on the bottom of the front page. Their content is more in the nature of social commentary and offers readers a 'daily smile'.
