The fonds contains records pertaining to Hyman Goodman's musical career. It includes, among other items, correspondence with violin makers; concert programmes; press clippings; student files; an autograph score by Percy Faith; photographs of Goodman and other well-known musicians; sound recordings of concerts by Goodman accompanied by the Toronto Symphony, the Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra, the CBC Orchestra in Montréal, the Leon Zuckert Orchestra and pianist Leo Barkin; and a transcription of a radio interview entitled "Goodman's Got the Guts".

Goodman, Hyman, 1913-1994 : Toronto-born violinist and teacher Hyman Goodman began violin lessons in 1920 with Broadus Farmer, and subsequently studied with renowned artists such as Vladimir Graffman, William Primrose and Kathleen Parlow. In the course of his career, he played with many ensembles, including the General Electric Hour Orchestra, the Alexander Chuhaldin string orchestras and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, where he was concert master from 1948 to 1967. During the 1960s, he taught at American Federation of Musicians stringed instrument conventions and the University of California at Los Angeles, where he settled in 1971.
