Air Canada. Purchasing and Facilities Department : In 1946 the Purchases and Facilities Department was known as the Facilities and Supply Control Department and was headed by a Director. In 1952, the successor Purchases and Stores Department had the following responsibilities: "to procure equipment (excluding new aircraft) and supplies required for the Company's operations; to provide efficient storage for stocks of materials at strategic locations; to supply the requirements of using departments promptly from stock; and to recover or dispose of surplus of obsolete items." The name of this department was changed to the Purchasing and Facilities Department in 1970. The name of this department, now headed by a Vice President, was renamed the Purchasing and Supply Department in 1977. Condensed History of the Company.
