Sub-series consists of volumes used to record the sale of surrendered Indian land in the Northern Superintendency, the Northern Superintendency, Division 1, the Manitowaning Agency, the Manitoulin Island Agency. These register books, most commonly, recorded the following information, usually by purchase, or sometimes by assignment: a) the sale number; b) the purchaser or assignee; c) the lot and concession, d) the township or reserve; e) the date; and e) particulars of the sale. Often this information was updated for many years after the date of the original entry. Some of the volumes are indexes, organized alphabetically or by sale number, to the actual registers. The main series of land books for the Northern Superintendency, and its successors the Manitowaing Agency and the Manitoulin Island Agency, are Vols. 12900-12905 (Vols. 12904-12905 are indexes). Volumes 12909-12921 contain a wide range of registers produced by the same agencies, some interconnected some standing alone, which recorded similar information (for a more detailed description of these books consult finding aid 10-130). Land sales which concerned the Batchewana Band (under the jurisdiction of the Sault Ste. Marie Agency) were recorded in Vols. 12897-12899.

Indian location tickets (certificates which temporarily allocated plots of reserve land to band members in anticipation of individual ownership) were registered, by the Manitowaning Agency and the Manitoulin Island Agency, in Vol. 12927 for the Sucker Creek Band, and in Vols. 12928-12929 for the West Bay Band.

The records described in this sub-series were transferred to National Archives custody from the Manitoulin Island District Office. However, most were created by the predecessors of that office.
