File consists of an album apparently owned and amassed by the son of the lawyer and politician Robert Baldwin. This album is representative of the nineteenth-century penchant for collecting carte-de-visite portraits of famous people, as well as buildings from the 1860s. The album contains portraits of royalty, prominent British and Canadian clergymen and statesmen, including Reverend H.J. Grassett, Lord Monck, and Sir John B. Robinson. There is as well a rare early view of St. James Cathedral, Toronto. Photographers include: William Notman and J. Inglis of Montreal, Elihu Spencer of Ottawa and E.J. Palmer of Toronto.
