This sub-series consists of correspondence, speeches, press clippings, conference agendas and proceedings and the like addressed to the issue of Third World indebtedness. Several files consist of various articles and speeches assembled by McLean. There are as well documents which reflect the positions of the Canadian government on this subject, as well as briefing papers. In this sub-series there is an interesting mix of both private and government provenance material, the private reflecting attempts by the Canadian Council of Bishops and other Church leaders (McLean included) working from the early 1980s to find avenues of relief from debt for the Third World countries. A number of files detail the Ottawa Seminar on International Debt in 1992, a significant attempt to find ways out of indebtedness for developing countries.
