This series consists of meeting agendas, reports, conferences, proceedings, press releases, background information, briefing material, correspondence and much commentary and gloss by McLean, which comment on the executive meetings, parliamentary fora and international council sessions of this organization. The series details the work of an informal "global parliamentary body", its members working independently of their state parliaments and of standing international bodies, working in the interstices, to help resolve issues which troubles international relations and global well-being, such as apartheid, Third World poverty and economic backwardness, military dictatorships, absence of democracy in many societies, abuse of Human Rights, nuclear testing, Third World debt and so on. A novel problem appeared on the scene in the latter 1980s-early 1990s, with the end of Communism in eastern Europe, amplifying an abuse already existing in African states -- the problem of repression of journalists and writers. A number of files detail the activity of the G.P.A. to defend writers/journalists, and to secure their safety in troubled regions of the world.
