The series consists of records created and accumulated by George A. Gundersen while Art Director at the British American Bank Note Company. Most philatelic items, proofs, essays, and issued stamps were produced at the company under the direction of or by Gundersen. Some of the material was produced by the company when it was located in Montreal from 1871 to 1889. These records were kept and maintained by Gundersen as reference material for his designs and work with designers.

Custodial history:

Originally acquired by the National Postal Museum, Canada Post Corporation. Transferred to the Canadian Postal Archives, National Archvies of Canada 1988. Some material was acquired through Colin Bayley., Colin Bayley passed away in 1992, why or how the material came into Bayley's custody is unknown.
