As minister of the environment, McMillan also had responsibility for national parks. The files in this sub-series, consisting of memos, correspondence and reports, reflect the minister's contribution to the development of parks policy designed to protect and expand the parks system; an example of such is the material dealing with the issue of private leases in national parks.

McMillan's department also had involvement in promoting and preserving heritage sites. Hence the files dealing with events such as the unveiling of historical plaques at the old Toronto Post Office and the George Brown House in Toronto, and the files titled Agreement with friends of the citadel, dedicated to the preservation of the Halifax Citadel.

There are some files in this sub-series on special events, usually connected with the promotion of environmental awareness (such as Environmental week 1987), and on organizations active in the promotion of environmental concerns (such as Wilderness Mosaic and World Commission on Environment and Development ). Finally, a file of press clippings over the years 1985-1988 highlights the key environmental issues with which McMillan's department had to deal.
