This correspondence, in departmental dockets, is organized in a numbered filing system. It deals with tourism policy (strategy, marketing plans and budget). There is also a large run of general files, addressing issues such as advertising, development and marketing, special tourism concerns, promotional events, requests for policy information and Tourism tomorrow (development of a new comprehensive tourism policy).

These files, while largely correspondence, also contain memos and notes of staffers providing the minister with advice. In some instances, the correspondence is of a promotional nature as businesses represent their interests. The responses from the minister's office are directed to individuals, business and environmental organizations, officials and civil servants, as well as to elected officials at provincial and federal levels (members of parliament, members of legislative assembly and cabinet ministers). The files address all aspects of tourism: overall policy objectives; policy formulation; development of the industry; economic aspects (livelihoods and economic benefits); problem areas; environmental concerns and the like. The files pertain to all governmental and inter-governmental levels (provincial, federal and international).

In sum, this sub-series reflects formulation and development of policy, the minister/cabinet nexus with other governmental levels, the minister-citizen/corporate relationships, input of exempt staff and the overall range and breadth of the tourism portfolio.
