This sub-series consists of briefing books dealing with the minister's office administration and with the Department of Regional Industrial Expansion, with projects in various provinces falling under the tourism portfolio. There are a number of files, consisting of correspondence, memos, reports and notes, dealing with Tourism tomorrow (the development of a comprehensive, new policy on tourism), with many observations by the minister. Reports, correspondence and memos address the issue of Canada-U.S. tourist trade, and demonstrate the great attention which the minister accorded to this matter. A file contains the minister's speeches on tourism, which reflect the evolution and development of government policy in this sphere. Finally, copies of outgoing chrons (with some incoming correspondence as well, interspersed with memos and clippings), for the period of October 1984 to July 1985, highlight the formulation of tourism policy and the various difficulties which needed to be overcome. Much of this correspondence is with tourism officials and members of parliament and ministers at both provincial and federal levels (such as Sinclair Stevens and Ray Hnatyshyn).
