This series comprises a variety of record types (correspondence, reports, memoranda, brochures, newsletters, discussion papers, informational material, press releases, clippings and speeches) in a variety of thematic areas. There are some files of election material on the general election of 1979, as well as files on McMillan's Hillsborough riding election activities (some Hillsborough files go to 1988). A number of files reflect McMillan's house of commons activities and interests, such as question period and the issue of closure (1979-1984), PC party caucus committees (1979-1984), and correspondence and memos from the offices of the house leader and deputy house leader (1983-1984).

The series also contains a thick file, with annotated material, on the constitution (1980-1981), as well as remarks, press releases and speeches by McMillan on various political and environmental issues. There is a substantial number of files on the environment (1979-1984), reflecting McMillan's activity as opposition environment critic (1981 onwards).

A number of files reflect McMillan's work with Prof. T.H.B. Symons, author of 'Some questions of balance', dealing with funding and support for Canadian studies. Finally, a run of files, consisting of bills and related material, reflects McMillan's legislative interests and the positions he took on various bills.
