Sub series consists of photographs taken in the cities, towns and villages along or near the Cuba Railroad between Santa Clara and Santiago, Cuba. Included are views of community life and activities, scenic views showing the landscape, rivers etc.

Photographs depict the following: construction of the main line and branch lines of the Cuba Railroad Company between Santa Clara and Santiago, Cuba, 1900-1902; views of cities, towns and villages located on or near the lines of the Cuba Railroad Company; sugar mills and plantation at Jatibonico and Jobabo, Cuba; renovation and construction in Camaguey, Cuba, 1903 and 1909; dredge on the Berbera River, Columbia; railroad accident, 1904.

The photographs are, by and large, simply scenic views of Cuba (street scenes, harbour scenes). They do not explicitly document the construction of the railway although there are a small number of views of men working. The photographer is unknown and the geographical locations are not identified except in one or two instances. The photographs have no exact date of creation.

The glass negatives in this subseries may be associated with the albumen prints.

Additionally, there are photographs relating to railway construction in Guatemala.

General note:

The glass plate negatives are simply scenic views of Cuba (street scenes, harbour views). The photographs do not document the construction of the railway, nor can they be directly linked to Van Horne (he cannot be identified in any of the photographs). The photographer is unknown, the geographical locations are not identified except in one or two instances and the photographs have no exact date of creation.
