The fonds consists of microfilmed copies of selected portions of "Mint" classes of the Royal Mint of Great Britain which relate to currency and coinage in Canada and Newfoundland, medals given by the British government, the mint in Ottawa, and the subject of numismatics. This material is located on microfilm reels B-5353 to B-5375.

Great Britain. Royal Mint : Control of currency policy was vested in the Monarch until as a result of the 1688 Revolution it passed from the Crown to Parliament. The organization as established in 1279 endured in form until the nineteenth century. The internal structure of the Mint was reorganized in 1870 into three main divisions: the Mint Office, the Assay Department and the Operative Department, formed by an amalgamation of the Coining and Die and Melting Departments.
