Colonial Bleaching and Printing Co : The Colonial Bleaching and Printing Company was established in 1899 in St. Henri, Quebec, on the outskirts of Montreal. The company was organized by William T. Whitehead with the financial backing of (Sir) Herbert Holt, who became its first president. Intending to take advantage of a surplus of grey cotton on the Canadian market, the company converted (bleached and printed) grey cottons into a finished product. In 1905, the Colonial Bleaching and Printing Co. became one of the founding members of Dominion Textile. The company continued to exist as a legal entity until 1920. The Colonial plant closed in 1948, and was later demolished.
