Prairie Provinces Water Board (Canada) : In 1948, Alberta Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Canada signed the Prairie Provinces Water Board Agreement. This Agreement established a Board to recommend the best use of interprovincial waters, and to recommend allocations between provinces. 1969, a Master Agreement on Apportionment provided an apportionment formula for eastward flowing interprovincial streams, gave recognition to the problem of water quality, and reconstituted the Prairie Provinces Water Board.

Board Members are senior officials engaged in the administration of water resources in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and in the federal Departments of Environment and Agriculture and Agri-Food. Board Members report directly to the Ministers of each government department represented. The Board is supported by a Secretariat and three permanent Committees (Committee on Hydrology, Committee on Water Quality, and Committee on Groundwater).

For many years, the now-defunct Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration represented the department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada on the board. Between 2009-2012, the now-defunct Agri-Environment Services Branch represented AAFC on the board. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada provided information, research and technology, and policies and programs to achieve security of the food system, health of the environment and innovation for growth.
