Audio recording of television program presented by the United Steelworkers of America in Sudbury, Ontario. Series of interviews conducted by Jim Robertson, identified as chairman of the voluntary organizing committee for Steel in Sudbury, with voluntary organizers, intended to demonstrate that the Sudbury situation did not result from a raid but from a movement by the workers, out of dissatisfaction with the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers. Those interviewed include: Laurence (first name only) from the Iron Ore Recovery Plant; Bob (first name only) from Murray Mine; Bob [Sirois] from the Frood-Stobie Mine; Jim Olive from Garson Mine; Don Dennis from Creighton Mine; and Ed Poirier from Levack Mine, speaking on percentages signed up for Steel at their plants and mines, positive effect of Steel win at Port Colborne, dissatisfaction with Mine Mill (financial statements, strike welfare benefits during the 1958 strike, result of 1958 strike, communism, etc.), and abuse and intimidation by Mine Mill of those wishing to join Steel. Includes statement by veteran Local 598 member and local sports personality, "Whispering Joe", on why he joined Steel; his opposition to Mine Mill's use of union funds to back left-wing candidates. eg Henry Wallace, a third party candidate in the U.S. in 1948. Includes report on progress of sign-up campaign at Mine Mill stronghold at Falconbridge by voluntary organizer George Roy. Includes remarks by Bob Bouchard that he and Jim Robertson are paid help, technical advisers in the Steelworkers.
