Bud DeVito compares pension plan recommended by United Steelworkers of America at Algoma Steel in Sault-Ste-Marie with the one Mine Mill has at Inco; contrasts Steel claims it can get American rates in the nickel industry with growing difference between American and Canadian rates in the Steel industry. He comments on the meeting in Sault-Ste-Marie held on Monday: disputes Bob Bouchard's report and says members were forced to reject their committee's recommendations in order to get a plant vote; role of Steel Vice-President William Mahoney in trying to rush settlement in order to influence Port Colborne vote; membership's refusal to ratify agreement at previous meeting because one shift denied opportunity to vote; reaction of Steel members at Sault-Ste-Marie to Mahoney's role in Steel raid. Comments on cancellation of Local 598 meetings by President Don Gillis: Gillis' lack of confidence in the members and his adjournment of last two meetings when the Steel raid came up; and the orderly Mine Mill meeting at Sudbury Arena Sunday 3 Dec.
