Collection consists of 86 pencil sketches created by Henry Ash while serving on the S.S. Faraday during the 1879 to 1900 Atlantic Cable Expeditions. Works include views of Halifax, Newfoundland, Cape Anne (Massachusetts), Cape Cod (Massachusetts), New York, the Mid-Atlantic, Ireland and England. Collection also comprises a printed souvenir card of the 1894 Mackay-Bennett Atlantic Cable Expedition, one book registration from the Stationers' Hall, one sepia photograph of the crew of the S.S. Faraday and a programme for a show put on by the Faraday's crew.

Library and Archives Canada had been unsuccessful in acquiring this collection when it was made available at Michael Bowman's Antique and Fine Art Sale, South Devon, in October 2004. One year later, the same group of works, minus 19 drawings (most likely views of the Azores and Ireland) was again put up for sale at Christie's, South Kensington, and LAC had the winning bid. The collection was acquired by Library and Archives Canada in September 2005.
