Sub-series consists of official diaries of Dominion Land Surveyors relating to surveys undertaken in Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Yukon Territory, and the NorthWest Territories.

For the most part the diaries concern the day to day activities of surveyors while on duty in the field. The details of the survey work are considerably amplified in the published reports of the Surveyor General which appeared annually in the report of the Department of the Interior.

Title based on contents of the sub-series.

Custodial history:

The Alberta diaries (vols. 441-470) were transferred to the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1979 where they are maintained as they were organized at the National Archives of Canada. See Provincial Archives of Alberta accession number 79.27. All the diaries were transferred from the Legal Surveys and Aeronautical Charts, Surveys and Mapping Branch in 1959 and 1961., The survey diaries relating to lands transferred to Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia under the resource transfer agreement 1930 were turned over to the appropriate province by the Legal Surveys and Aeronautical Charts Division in 1959.
