Beaver Creek Institution (Gravenhurst, Ont.) : Beaver Creek Institution was opened in 1961 as a minimum security level penitentiary in Gravenhurst, Ontario. The building, however, was constructed during the Second World War and originally named "Little Norway." During that time, the institution served as a base for training fighter pilots of the Norwegian Air Force. The current institution has experienced many structural renovations; the latest expansion project coming to a close in 1995. The current bed capacity of the institution is 208 and the staff complement is 102.
