Series consists of five files: the last day of operation postmarked covers, the Boer War covers, the Lallier's Postage Stamp Album, a postage stamp, and miscellaneous correspondence acquired through Mr. Bayley's collecting activities.

The last day of operation postmarked covers are from various Alberta, New Brunswick, Ontario and Québec Post Offices. Post Offices include: Codesa, Flat Lake, Harmon Valley, Magnolia, Pembridge, Tolland, Valhalla, Alberta; Baie Verte, Glencoe, Hardings Point, Hawkshaw, Kingston, Lower Southampton, Pollet River, Rusagonis Station, New Brunswick; Newton Robinson, Ontario; Broughton Station, Pointe au Bouleau, Rivière Vert, Québec.

The Boer War covers consist of 21 postal covers addressed to Mrs. C.L. Bennett, Charles H. Bennett, and Alfred Bennett from an Alfred Bennett, serving in the Boer War. Many covers bear manuscript markings, and "On Active Service" free frank.

The Lallier Postage Stamp Album (7th French edition, Paris, 1868) contains 138 postage stamps (primarily U.S. private and local posts). Some stamps are counterfeit.

The postage stamp is a Canada 15 cent large Queen Victoria, lilac-grey with script watermark. It dates from 1876.

The miscellaneous correspondence was accumulated by Mr. Bayley as part of his collecting activities. The contents provide information about business enterprises in Newfoundland and other Maritime provinces and the Canadas, 1787-1899, as well as a view of the trade links with the United States and the United Kingdom.

General note:

The miscellaneous correspondence was photocopied by Public Archives of Canada staff from originals held by Mr. Bayley.
The two volumes of engraver's cancellation die proofs prepared for the Post Office Department were previously known as "The Colin H. Bayley Collection of Pritchard-Andrews Limited Proof Impressions: 1885-1925". They were originally housed as Volumes 37 and 38 of the National Postal Museum Proof Impressions Collection.

The last day of operation covers were originally mailed to the Ottawa Philatelic Society by Tommy Lee of Royal Trust. Colin Bayley then donated them to the National Postal Museum. (Acc. no. unknown.) They were transferred to the National Archives of Canada when the Canadian Postal Archives was created in 1988., Letters were originally contained in a lot placed for sale by the estate of Robert L. Borden of Halifax. They were acquired by Dave Morrison, and offered to the donor, who later donated them to the National Postal Museum. (Acc. no. unknown.) The letters were transferred to the Canadian Postal Archives (National Archives of Canada) as DAP Accession 1989-565., The Lallier Postage stamp album was originally acquired in 1870 by Mary Worrell Coddington, and given to Colin H. Bayley, who donated the album to the National Postal Museum (as acc. no. 986.37) in 1986., The 15 cent large Queen Victoria postage stamp (1876) was originally from the Colin H. Bayley collection., The two volumes of proof impressions were originally sold by Mr. Walter Pritchard. They were later sold by G.E. Fairbairn to Colin H. Bayley, who donated the material to the National Postal Museum (Accn. no. 984.39). This material was later transferred to the National Archives of Canada (Canadian Postal Archives) in 1988 as part of accession 1989-565.
