Barrach, Aaron Meyer, 1900-1983 : Aaron Meyer Barrach, amateur photographer, (born at Glasgow, Scotland, 7 April 1900; died at Hamilton, Ont., 12 June 1983) traced his interest in photography to his schooldays in Glasgow. At that time, negatives of English and Scottish soccer teams were sold in stores, and it was a popular school-yard activity to produce photographs of favourite teams using printing-out paper. Barrach moved to Canada in 1912 and became involved in the Hamilton Camera Club when it was first re-organized in 1932, at a meeting in Walter Hill's camera store with Leonard Davis, Art Lomax and a handful of others. He served as Secretary of the club in 1937, Vice-President in 1939, and continued to be an active member thereafter. From box camera beginnings, Barrach turned to the 2 1/4" square format of a twin-lens Rolleiflex. During the 1930's, his prints were shown at the major annual salons in Toronto, Hamilton, London and Vancouver. Private Realms of Light, PAC, Ottawa, 1984, page 304.
