Sub-series consists of records created by the process of receiving complaints about bilingualism in the office. The role of ombudsman in redressing cases of alleged violations of the Official Languages Act is central to the mandate of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages. The case file series that will be transferred in 2008 will constitute only a set of examples for the period up to 1988. This Card index, the original true finding aid to the case files, provides a minimum record of the comprehensive set of cases dealt with by the Office. It provides prima facie evidence that the complaints process was a real and substantial activity. The cards link every complaint to a real person and a real transaction and a real organization against which the complaint was directed. (RG122, Vols. 21-35)
