The Division of Electrical Engineering of the National Research Council (NRC) was established when the Division of Physics and Elecrical Engineering split to form Division of Physics and Division of Radio and Electrical Engineering. At the same time the new Division of Radio and Electrical Engineering absorbed the former Electrical Engineering and Radio Branch. The name was formally changed to the Radio and Electrical Engineering Division (REED) in 1948. The architectural and technical drawings are the product of the Engineering Design Section which were responsable for the drafting and standardization of project related drawings.
The records document REED's contribution in the development of wartime and peacetime technology. The records document the NRC's scientific achievements in diverse subjects such as radar technology, astrophysics, and computer designs.

Architectural, technical - drawings: Most records are in good condition.

These records were produced and collected by the Radio and Electrical Engineering Division (REED) of the National Research Council. When REED ceased to exist in 1976 they were used actively by the Electrical Engineering Division before being given to the National Research Council Archives. The archives running out of space stored the architectural and technical drawings in cabinets in the basement of 100 Sussex. Records Services of the National Research Council arranged, folderised, boxed and inventoried prior to the transfer to the National Archives in 1999.
