Fonds consists of correspondence and clippings concerning the purchase of the AGNES P. (steamship) and the original 1913 registry certificate of the vessel.

The fonds also contains photographs of three views of the AGNES P. at Manotick, Ontario.

Gibson, James Alexander, 1912- : James Alexander Gibson, born in 1912 at Ottawa, Ont., was educated at the University of British Columbia and Oxford University. After serving with the Foreign service Office, Department of External Affairs from 1938 until 1947, he joined Carleton College later Carleton University as an Associate Professor of history in 1947 and became a Professor in 1949. He remained with Carleton until 1963, having served as Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science from 1951 until 1963 and Dean of Arts and Deputy to the President, 1963. In 1963, Dr. Gibson was appointed president to Brock University.

While Dr. Gibson was Dean of Arts and Science, he headed a group of friends of Carleton University who purchased the Agnes P. in 1962. This group held it in trust for the school of Engineering Students' society. The Agnes P. built at Buckingham in 1913, was the last steam driven vessel operating on the Rideau Canal.
