Collection comprises two caricatures of Kim Campbell, by Barbara Klunder, which were published as an accompaniment to a profile on the politician in the Globe and Mail. The two works parody her on-going difficulties with the Defence portfolio and the controversy which ensued from the proposed purchase of a new fleet of helicopters for Canada's military.

Klunder, Barbara, ca. 1948- : Barbara Klunder has worked for over two decades, primarily in Toronto, as a graphic artist and editorial illustrator. Using a multiplicity of media and formats, she confounds long-established boundaries between art and craft. During her career, Klunder's drawings have been used on book jackets, editorial pages, posters, t-shirts, and album and compact disc recording covers. She has designed ceramic ware, jewellry, knitting kits, stationery, hooked rugs, and clothing. Her large scale projects can be seen decorating many Toronto area buildings and restaurants. Defining herself as an "urban folk artist", Klunder uses her design work to express personal views on such social and political topics as the environment, women's equality and human rights. She continues to exhibit in craft galleries and museums across Canada.

Source of title:

Title is based on the name of the artist.

Custodial history:

The two caricatures were initially loaned by the artist, in Septemnber 1993, for a National Archives' exhibition entitled "Drawing on the Margins". The exhibition was to feature the work of graphic humourists working outside the mainstream press. When the exhibition was subsequently cancelled, the artist's drawings were kept on deposit until this donation was completed.
