Scope and content:Sub-series consists of records of the third Royal Canadian Air Force classification system adopted in 1947, when the three forces were again placed under the responsibility of the one Department of National Defence. Like its predecessors, this central registry covered all operational, support and administrative activities carried out by the air force and of concern to RCAF Headquarters. The RCAF made minor modifications to the file system on several occasions, however it remained basically unchanged until it was replaced with the National Defence/Canadian Forces file classification system at the time of the unification of the three services in 1966. Post unification records dealing with air force activities can be found in provenance-based series (the Air Command, RG24-G-10, area of the RG24 general inventory). The principal subjects covered in RG 24 Volumes 17534-18181 are as follows: general program of activities; aeronautical companies; co-operation with International Civil Aviation Organizations (ICAO), municipalities, government departments and foreign countries; air cadets; federal and provincial elections; bilingualism; meteorology; customs; general and historical information; statistics; parliamentary and departmental inquiries; inventions and original ideas; photography; maps and plans; complaints against the Crown; duties and responsibilities; handing-over and change of command; reports and returns; visits and inspections; trophies; regulations; dress; air traffic control; conferences and congresses; ceremonies (including 1953 coronation); orders and instructions; public relations; fanfares; civil defence; space engineering and research; chaplaincy; intelligence; telecommunications services; land defence; operational research; air safety; search and rescue; operational requirements; security; air force police.
