The first session of this panel discussion deals with Canadian monetary and fiscal policy. The first speaker is Dr. John B. Ridpath, Associate Professor of Economics at York University, who discusses policy directions needed to achieve economic growth, price stability, full employment and a strong currency. He is followed by Norman MacRae, Deputy Editor of "The Economist", who discusses four variants of fiscal and monetary policy ie, modified Keynesianism, fixed monetarism, sound money supply, and supply-side economics. A question and answer period follows. The second session deals with taxation policy. The speakers are William Macness, Vice President and Director of Pitfield MacKay Ross Ltd., who discusses the "misorientation" of basic tax policy in Canada, and Barry Olivella, a chartered accountant with Clarkson Gordon Ltd., who suggests specific tax policy alternatives for the 1980s. A question and answer period follows. Don Blenkarn, MP Mississauga South, comments on the panel discussion.
