Series consists of copies of the war diaries of the Deputy Assistant Principal Chaplain (RC), 2nd Canadian Corps, September 1943 and of the Senior Chaplain (RC), Canadian Reinforcement Units, July-August 1943; liaison letters, January 1944-June 1945, of the Directorate of Principal Chaplain (RC); report of the Principal Chaplain (RC) for 1942; memorandum regarding the work of Roman Catholic chaplains in Canada in 1942; war diary of the Directorate of Chaplain Services (RC) for 1st, 25th and 27th Infantry Brigade Groups, 1950-1954; War diary, July 1941-August 1945, monthly reports, December 1943-September 1945, and subject files, 1940-1946, of the Principal Chaplain (P) of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. (Vol. 19838) The series also includes vestry books, 1942-1971, from Canadian Forces bases which record services held in the chapels weekly as well as the names of those baptized, married or buried. Canada. Canadian Army. Royal Canadian Army Chaplain Corps : The Royal Canadian Chaplain Corps was authorized as a Militia component on 1 June 1921 under the designation "Canadian Chaplain Service." The Regular component was authorized in 1948. During the First World War a "Canadian Chaplain Service" attended to troops in Canada and overseas. The Corps provided chaplains for Canadian units and formations in the Second World war and later, in Korea, Europe, the Middle East and the Congo. The Protestant and Roman Catholic Chaplains provide for the spiritual welfare of personnel and their dependents.
