Canada. Canadian Army. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Battalion, 2nd : The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry was formed in August 1914 and was the first Canadian unit to take to the field in World War I. Over 5,000 men and officers were mustered and the unit took part in the following Battles: St-Eloi, Mont Sorrel, Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Amiens, Canal du Nord and Mons. During World War II, the unit spent its first three years in Great Britain and thereafter participated in the Sicilian Campaign and the drive to Italy. With the taking of Rome, the unit participated in the Battle of France and the Northwest Campaign. Having participated in the Korean War, the unit headquarters was transferred from Toronto to Calgary.

Along with 2 RCR, Royal 22nd Regiment and 3rd Battalion PPCLI, 2nd Battalion was allocated for the role of ground defence of the Canada-United States Region on 2 April 1962, in accordance with the Canadian-United States Emergency Defence. Effective 1 December 1970, the redesignated 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group was co-located with 1 Canadian Air Group (1CAG) to the Lahr area, under operational control of Central Army Group. 4 CMBG's order of battle as listed in its first Canadian Forces Organizational Order 12.3, dated 1 September 1970, included 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. The brigade was disbanded on 31 July 1993 with the Canadian closure of its European bases. RG24 General Inventory
