Canada. Canadian Army. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Battalion, 1st : The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry was formed in August 1914 and was the first Canadian unit to take to the field in World War I. During World War II, the unit spent its first three years in Great Britain and thereafter participated in the Sicilian Campaign and the drive to Italy. With the taking of Rome, the unit participated in the Battle of France and the Northwest Campaign. After the war the PPCLI formed a part of the Regular Force and the 1st Battalion PPCLI was assigned to 1st CIBG, later designated 1 CMBG. The PPCLI participated in the Korean War, after which the unit headquarters was transferred from Toronto to Calgary. RG24 General Inventory
