Karl Beveridge (Interviewer)Description:Oral history interview by Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge of Harold Oley, former worker at General Motors of Canada, Oshawa, Ontario, and founding member of Local 222, United Automobile Workers. Oley recalls the leaders of the early trade union movement in the 1930s in Oshawa and their attempts to organize the workers. Other topics include the influence of the Communist Party in the labour movement, the opposition from some municipal officials and police toward the trade union leaders and the threat of deportation used against the leaders.
