Industry Branch : The Industry Branch was one of three new branches created following a significant reorganization of Ministry of State for Science and Technology (MOSST) in 1975. The principle function of this branch was to develop and assess federal government science and technology policies relating to research and development, and the use of science and technology in Canada's resource, manufacturing, and service industries.
In policy development, the branch's objective was to improve and co-ordinate the utilization of scientific and technological advances as well as to enhance research and development capabilities in Canadian Industry. It also responded to requests from other departments to co-ordinate policy proposals in areas which involve several departments. The branch reviewed the policy proposals of other federal departments whenever there were implications of an industrial, scientific or technological nature. Headed by an assistant secretary, the structure of the Industry Branch remained relatively stable until it was dissolved in 1983.
