Series consists of the office files of the former Executive Director of the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), from 1975 to 1979, Michael Shoemaker. These files cover a variety of topics relating to the administrative and operational activities of the CRTC Subjects covered include federal-provincial relations, cable television policy, commercial policy, Canadian content policy, ownership policy, pay television policy and any other topics relating to the regulation of broadcasting and telecommunications in Canada.

Biography/Administrative history:

Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission. Office of the Executive Director : The Executive Director (ED) was the senior staff officer of the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The ED was responsible for policy formation as well as for all operational and administrative staff work. The ED reported directly to the Chairman of the CRTC. Functions included planning, directing and coordinating policy formation as well as establishing and maintaining liaison with the broadcasting and telecommunications industry. From 1975 to 1979, Michael Shoemaker filled the position. In 1979 the position of Executive Director was abolished and replaced by two senior executive positions: that of Senior Executive, Director of Operations and that of Executive Director to Corporate Management.
