Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission. Office of the Senior Executive Director of Operations, Analysis of Programming. Preliminary Radio Broadcast Evaluation Program : The Preliminary Radio Broadcast Evaluation Program, which existed from 1972 to 1975, was established to study the performance of a select group of radio stations according to very detailed criteria against which the daily programming (spoken word and music) of these stations was evaluated. The program fell under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Senior Executive Director of Operations, Analysis of Programming. The research methods, which combined both quantitative and qualitative factors, were developed in a pilot project conducted in 1972 and were applied to the project itself between 1973 and 1975. The goal of this project was to assist the CRTC in formulating policies on the AM and FM bands. This was the first time since broadcasting came to Canada that content analysis of this kind had been undertaken.

The radio stations studied in the 1972 pilot project included all those in the Ottawa, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Edmonton and Quebec City markets. These target markets represented large and medium-sized urban centres, both official languages and multicultural broadcasting. RG100 General Inventory
