Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Mineral Resources and Statistics Division and its predecessors. The series includes mineral statistics and mining company ledgers.

The mineral statistics (RG87, volumes 1 to 62) consists of individual company reports and production statistics for various metallic ores, non-metallic products, structural materials and clay products. The records are arranged by mineral or product, then occasionally further broken down by region. The records cover t he entire early period that this Division was responsible for this activity (1885-1920) before it was transferred to the newly-formed Dominion Bureau of Statistics.

The ledgers (RG87, volumes 151 and 152) contain additional company production information specifically for the period 1898-1902. The ledgers contain the information collected from mining companies that was compiled and analyzed in the annual reports for the Section. The ledgers were organized by year, by the mineral or metal that was produced, and by province. Additionally, some ledgers include information on the name of the company that produced the resource, the name, location, and number of men employed at the mine or quarry, the name of the manager of the operation, the weight, in tons, of material produced, and occasionally some general remarks relating to the operation of the mine or quarry. A few loose documents were discovered among the pages of the 1898-1899 ledger and have been placed in a separate folder.
