Forestry Resources Division : The Forestry Resources Division of the Northern Renewable Resources Directorate was responsible for the management of northern forest resources in order to stimulate northern economic development and employment opportunities and to provide forest fire protection services to the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Responsibility for this activity passed through a number of administrative areas of the department including the Northwest Territories and Yukon Branch, 1922-1950, Northern Administration (and Lands) Branch, 1950-1968, Northern Development Program, 1968-1973, and Northern Affairs Program, 1973-1987. As part of an ongoing process of devolution of authority from the federal to the territorial governments, the management of forest and fire protection services were turned over to the government of the Northwest Territories on 1 April 1987.
