Sub-series consists of an eleven box card index that relates to Yukon mining claims and to the mining claim ledgers described in the Mining ledgers sub-series ( RG85-A-1-c, MIKAN 135004, Vols. 2204-2231). The first set of index cards (boxes 1 and 2) contains the names of Yukon quartz claims as well as providing the grant number, file number and owner's name. The second set of cards (boxes 3 and 4) provides the names of Yukon quartz claim applicants in alphabetical order. Each card also includes the date of application, name of claim, grant number and file number of all claims for which that individual had applied. The name of the original owner and/or any other individuals to whom the claim was assigned also appears on this card. This set of cards generally covers the time period after that dealt with by the ledgers, namely the post 1947 era although some entries dating to 1908 also appear here. The cards can provide additional information about the history of a claim or applicant prior to 1947. The third set of cards (boxes 5 and 6) relates to lapsed Yukon quartz claims and provides two separate indexes by claim name and by name of applicant.
Yukon placer claim grants have a separate card index (box 7). These cards provide alphabetical listing of applicants as well as indicating the grant number or numbers.
The card index in box 8 relates to Yukon quartz mining claims. The name of each claim is listed in alphabetical order along with the respective grant number and the corresponding reference to the ledger number and a page number (i.e. Smith, C.B. 10/239) to which the researcher can refer for additional information about the claim or the individual. A comparable set of index cards (box 9) links the name of the applicant to a page and ledger reference. The final card index in this group (boxes 10 and 11) is arranged by Mining Lands and Yukon Branch file numbers within the range 2500 to 8900. The cards give the name of the applicant and provide the status of the file; whether it was active, dormant or destroyed up to the late 1960's when the system was abandoned. If a file is listed as active a search of the A-1-a, A-1-b and B-1-a, file lists will determine whether it has become part of the RG 85 holdings. (NO PERMANENT VOLUMES IN THIS SUB-SUB-SERIES. see accession MIKAN 45022, RG85 1988-89/070)
