Georgian Bay Islands National Park (Canada) : Georgian Bay National Park was established in 1929 when Beausoleil and twenty-eight other islands located off the southeast coast of Georgian Bay were transferred from the Department of Indian Affairs to the Department of the Interior's Dominion Parks Branch. Local administrative headquarters were established on Beausoliel Island. Until 1940 general supervision of the island was done by periodic visits of officers of the National Parks Branch. In 1941 J. C. Browne was appointed superintendent of all three Ontario parks. In 1957, Georgian Bay was administered by the superintendent of Point Pelee and this continued until 1968 when a permanent resident superintendent for Georgian Bay was appointed. The park is now comprised of fifty-nine islands occupying twenty-four square kilometres.
