Sub-series consists of records created and collected by Dr. William Gauvin while serving as the NRC's second Délégué-Général from 1969 to 1971. The records include publications and correspondence concerning building research, some of which reflect Dr. Gauvin's chairmanship of the Advisory Committee on Building Research. Also included are copies of outgoing correspondence from Leslie Cook, the council's first Délégué-Général. Most of Dr. Cook's correspondence pertains to the coordination of industrial research and development, a major area of concern for that year. Other material in this accession consists of folders of documentation related to the NRC's Standing Committee on the Canadian Journals of Research, the allocation of grants, and the NRC's Forecasting Committee which was set up to identify measures and policies by which science and engineering research and development could give more support to economic and technological growth in Canada. Most of Dr. Gauvin's and Dr. Cook's incoming and outgoing correspondence is with other members of the council executive, directors of the NRC's research divisions, academic scientists, and executives and scientists in the private sector.

National Research Council of Canada. Délégué Général : A member of the NRC Council, the position of Délégué-Général was created in 1967 to lead the newly created Program Planning and Analysis Group. Responsibilities of the group included long-range planning; analysis of ongoing and future NRC programs; conducting studies to assist Council and the executive officers of the NRC; and collecting statistical and other data related to these tasks.
